Kuala Lumpur, 25 February 2026 – Perbadanan Aset Keretapi (RAC), an agency under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT), has disbursed RM500,000 in Business Zakat for Financial Year 2025 to two state zakat institutions as part of its continued commitment to corporate social responsibility and inclusive socio-economic development.
Of the total amount, RM250,000 was channelled to the Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Kelantan (MAIK), while another RM250,000 was allocated to the Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK) to support initiatives benefiting asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) and underserved communities.
Commitment to Social Responsibility and Community Well-Being
The zakat contribution reflects RAC’s ongoing efforts to uphold its corporate social responsibility (CSR) obligations, particularly in strengthening socio-economic support systems for Muslim communities. Funds distributed through the state zakat institutions will be utilised to support educational aid, healthcare assistance and economic empowerment programmes.
The zakat handover ceremony was held in conjunction with the Ihya’ Ramadan Programme with Orphans and Media, which took place in Kuala Lumpur today.
The Business Zakat contribution was presented by RAC Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azhar Ahmad, to Dato’ Hj Mohd Anis Hussein, Deputy President of MAIK, while LZNK was represented by Mohamad Zaidi Azizan, Chief Collection Officer. The ceremony was witnessed by Anthony Loke and Deputy Transport Minister Hasbi Habibollah.
Zakat as a Trust and Responsibility
Dato’ Azhar Ahmad emphasised that zakat is not merely a financial obligation, but a trust that must be fulfilled responsibly. “As a government agency, RAC not only manages and develops the nation’s railway assets but also bears the social responsibility of ensuring that the benefits of development are shared with the community, especially those in need,” he said. He added that as custodian of national railway assets, RAC ensures that revenues and returns generated through asset development are managed with integrity and deliver value not only to the transportation sector but also to national social development.
Additional Contributions
In addition to the business zakat contribution, RAC also extended donations of RM3,500 each to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Asnaf Baitun Nurrawdhah and Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Perlindungan Nur Qaseh Malaysia. Approximately 50 orphans who attended the event also received festive duit raya and tokens of appreciation in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, reflecting RAC’s commitment to sharing joy and easing the burden of vulnerable groups.
Advancing Inclusive and Sustainable Social Development
RAC reaffirmed that its role extends beyond infrastructure management to encompass meaningful contributions toward community well-being and strengthening inclusive social ecosystems. The agency expressed hope that the zakat and welfare contributions will provide tangible relief to beneficiaries and contribute positively to Malaysia’s broader aspirations for inclusive and sustainable social development.
