The RSS (Rolling Stock Strategy) project is a strategic project involving 44 locomotives and 246 carriages with a 3-year implementation period for the refurbishment and replacement of assets. This project is being carried out under the “sell and lease back” concept, where Berapit Mobility purchases RAC assets including locomotives and carriages.
For the locomotives, Berapit Mobility will carry out refurbishment work before leasing them back to RAC for rail operations. For the carriages, Berapit Mobility will supply new 20-TAL carriages to replace RAC’s old 16-TAL carriages. This lease is planned for a long-term period of 25 years, in line with the “Road to Rail” initiative by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) which aims to shift cargo transportation from roads to rails, increase transport capacity, reduce traffic congestion and reduce environmental impact. This project is expected to strengthen KTMB’s operations, maximise the use of rail assets, and support the smooth operation of national rail logistics and transport services.
